Footprints In Stone

I have often heard the old man talk
about the Footprints In Stone
and I had often laughed,
not beleiving a word he said.
Now I have seen
the very footprints of which he spoke.
Away off in the distance
they led.
It seemed they knew no end,
so I followed,
not knowing where.
'T was then I saw the light
that I had for so long sought in vain.
'T was then my eyes were opened
to the wisdom that is shunned.
I continued to follow this road
through pain and suffering,
through the lives of forgotten men,
tortured, abused
and made to wish that they had never been born,
finally into a world of anger and prejudice
aimed at those that are different.
In that instant of time,
I knew,
that I would never be the same
for I had caught a glimpse
of the beauty that lies within us all.
After hours of travel,
the end was in sight.
There,
atop a pillar of stone,
lay the goal of my conquest.
The Golden Footprint of Understanding,
I soon beheld,
laying untouched
for thousands of years.
Thus, I returned,
aged with wisdom and wise beyond my years.
Many times,
I have traveled this road since
and each time,
the more footprints I have seen.
The more I travel this road,
the wiser I return.
Whenever you look down a path of footprints,
that's where you'll find me.
