SILENCE FROM THE DOOR…(©Peter Sprenkeler)

Closer we hurtle each tension filled moment,
To a potential holocaust…obvious to see.
The 'Alliance' seeking urgently for the worlds approval,
"Confrontation is just"…we hear them plea.

We hear the claims and denials…the thrust and parry,
Protest and outrage around the world does ring.
We hear so many reports…the media so frantic,
Soon death for many…in their ears will sing.

For months we have all heard so much,
From almost every quarter we have heard the news.
But a strange and eerie silence hangs over the door of the church,
Disturbing…little we've heard of the clergy and their views.

Where is the righteous outrage…the call to stop?
Where is the condemnation that war is wrong?
Where are the spiritual leaders at this precarious time?
They have disappeared from where they belong.

Why aren't they prominent on radio and television?
They seem to have washed their hands of the episode?
Where are they when mankind needs them so much?
They are missing…as the world is about to explode.

Where are the Cardinals…the Bishops…the Hierarchy?
Why aren't they 'out there' denouncing in God's sweet name?
I find the silence so sad and so tragic,
Their inactivity is appalling…perhaps they rightfully cower in shame?

The church can boast much power and influence,
They could make a difference…they could in fact stop war.
But not a sound do we hear…just cold clinical silence,
From behind God's very own tightly closed door!
