A Very Promising Title (the story of stitches)

no, I didn't see you
that was the day I told you to meet me.
I shouldn't have cut it.
now I mope with the stitches.
give and take a couple of inches
and a few promises you're good at breaking
taking....it all in with one fellow swoop
and replacing it with nothing.
so, I didn't see you
and instead you annoy me
with your constant breathing
and your stories of stitches.
what you signed up for
couldn't be as bad
even though I mark your absence
with the pain of smudged time.
yet, I did see you
propped up on the back of seder
with a withered siddur in one hand
revealing a very promising title.
it was you and the story of stitches
which explained your absence and dander
and your sordid contemplation
only accepted with a shrug
