Bondies

Contributed by neptunes_first on Wednesday, 9th June 2004 @ 04:33:40 PM in AEST
Topic: SpecialOccasionPoe

Bondie Gangs,
That’s what they’re called.
Bonny sangs fae times o’ auld -
One song for evr’y neighbourhood
Ye’d sing an’ fight like ab’dy would.

Each burning heart for revolution,
We were Fawkes’ destitution.

Bondie Night.
The night of flame!
Bonny lights o’er heights of game,
Silhouette the tribal children -
Rockets boom o’er mount we’re build’n . . .

Starburst heart’s our restitution
For oor loss o’ Constitution.

Bondie Guy,
That traitor we knew.
Bonny try, remembering you . . .
Tribal torches thrown on the pyre
Taks a hud tae spark up the fire -

Each flaming heart in evolution
Burns for air of devolution.

Bondie Times.
Collections* made
Bonny rhymes tae hud the fade
Of years of youth in neighbourhood
Fan songs n’ sights forivver should
Each day in heart sing revolution –
For oor ruler’s dissolution.

* Bondie collections (Firewood, tyres, industrial wooden pipe, or wire-rollers) are the means by which the Bondie is built. Rollers First, making an end-on end conical form, soaked in petrol – then covered with tyres. The biggest bonfire I helped construct reached thirty feet – the length of the central Guy Stick (Scaffold legs).

waht a neat poem - really enjoyed it - has a wonderful nostalgic note to it - and I recall having huge bonfires before the big footballs games when I was in high school.
