all gazes fixed above

Looking at our country's flag
the one we know and love

Our nations anthem playing
right hand upon their hearts

Singing each and every word
before the show would start

Now seated on our blankets
still looking at the sky

Boom! they shot the first one off
it rocketed so high

The childrens eyes all widened
their hearts, they skipped a beat

Colors flew out everywhere
and drifted toward the street

A second and a third one
blazed up into the night

To celebrate our freedom
our country's given right!

The fireworks were splendid
enjoyed by everyone

The sparklers now were fading
the show was almost done

It's time for the finale!
my children both exclaimed

They lit the last few fuses
the cannons now were aimed

Bursting into the darkness
the last remaining few

Twas' nothing more amazing
our own Red, White and Blue

As the final colors fell,
the song I heard them play

I'm Proud to be an American
God Bless the USA!

God Bless and Have a Happy and safe 4th of July!

Well done! I appropriately "oooh'd" and "ahhhhh'd" along as I read... and not for the fireword, but for your incredible talent at capturing the heart of the moment. I saw Pride here, long before I got to that second to last line.

Terrific write! I'll be needing to read more of you...

Happy 4th to you and yours!
~Snemmy~
