your complicated phrase
Assuming we don't truly hear
As we sit in an idled daze
The American dream: all eyes glazed

But a few actually do listen
And have noticed that we've lain our trust
in a man who thinks that, while their violence is wrong
Ours is perfectly just.

A violent-minded person
When one is struck, its right to strike back
Families dressed in all black
Nothing can replace what they lack
A son, a daughter, a sister, a bother
a memory, a lifetime (cut far too short)
A sudden-death point, on a desert court

Ironically, the sky is still blue
Old is still replaced by new
But peace is still long overdue

Children of freedom
Get back to the states
In cold wooden crates
Their eyes shut tight
So icy, So pale
It makes me wonder
If they realized
That the day they set sail
they had so much at stake
Their lives, their love
As families' hearts' break

Maybe they saw it
Once they arrived
The American dream: to not make it out alive

So this is the coveted American way?
Children dying by the day
Under a tyrant's order
A man not fit for a name
but this isn't the time to point fingers and blame
It's time to end this sudden-death game
What, truly, is the American dream?
As red white and blue
rips at the seam. [comments] => 4 [counter] => 240 [topic] => 8 [informant] => DeathByLove [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => AmericanTragedy )

this poem was awesome... we all have a lot at stake... its sad really that we put a price on life that its so easy for one person to send these soldiers no let me say people out to die... he says die for honor i say die for nothing die so then we can have oil die for one mans revenge... how pathetic is that any way nice write... always smile eternity

god, i totally agree with you and sometimes it feels like no one else sees this. that was an awesome poem. it reminds me of dulce et decorum est by wilfred owen (which you should read if you havent already). it's a great poem and basically him saying the same thing except maybe 80 years ago. just goes to show you how it continues and no one realizes how stupid this "american dream" is.

true true true... your poem made me tear up... my brother-in-law had been in iraq for a year and a half and i am tired of seeing my sisters tears with no words to of wisdom to give her. her husband had to watch his best friend die over there and now that his father is dying here in the states they say they cant send him home... i really like your poem it touched me as i am sure it did others... thanks...
