In memory of Todd M. Beamer - United Flight 93
September 11/01

Amen - Let’s Roll!

He did not know when he left home that day-
September the eleventh,- fateful date,
He’d have to battle terror in a fray
With boundless evil and thus meet his fate.

He’d dozed, then suddenly saw knives and fists
About horrendous crime to perpetrate
Flight ninety-three was manned by terrorists,
And in the hands of evil incarnate.

There had been screams at first and hardware flashed
And then he met the frozen vacant stares
Of pilots in their seats, throats deeply slashed
And on the floor rolled bloodied passengers.

He was uncertain as to what to do,
And started the Lord’s prayer silently,
Then with resolve got up for now he knew
He had been called to throttle infamy.

The plane must be deterred,- not reach its goal-
It had swerved far from its determined route
To hit the White House or the Capitol,
And countless lives would soon be blotted out.

“Deliver us from evil“- with these words
And recommending unto God his soul-
The fight was brief and on the tapes we heard
Todd’s final battle cry” AMEN - LET’S ROLL!
