soaring into the sky
Leaving behind all my pain
lest I should die

Sun's bright rays lost
in sturdy wings of black
Never return to the nest
I'm not going back

An arrow pierces my heart
my lean physique trails blood
The earth's coming closer
I slam into the mud

My wings are useless
No longer can fly
My body is shattered
I break down and cry

Longingly look into azure
where flying is best
I'm no longer up there
I've failed the test

Death roams this earth
and danger is near
Crying out in terror
will anyone hear?

The predators stalk me
I'm sensing the beast
On my bloody carcass
the enemy will feast

Panic powers my body
I get up and run
No longer airborne
or companion to sun

Sweat lacquers my body
The enemy's near
Closing in on me
He smells my fear

Another attacks him
as I run away
More than exhausted
But I'll live today

The rules have all changed
I'll never be whole
The loss of flight
condemns my soul

Fear paralyzes me
I linger near death
My lungs collapse
I near my last breathe

The moment draws out
I might even survive
Yes, it is true
I am alive!

After some time I feel better
and try less to fret
One step after another
