[bodytext] => Four-Door Racer ~~~~ My daddy owned a four-door racing machine Scared my mother to death when he lived out his dream He loved to race at speeds known to few Despite mother’s objection, that’s what he’d do He’s shine and wax that racing car In hopes that someday it would take him far On the track is where he loved to be Screams from the audience, he loved to see Mom would be so nervous; she would close her eyes Each time that dad would go racing by And each time I’d hear her pray To bring him safely back her way But one-day mom’s worst fears were realized When dad hit the wall, you could here the cries I was too young to understand what was going on Until I hear her cry that he was gone A week later we laid him in the ground With all his racing buddy standing around I tried to comfort mom all I could As frozen in front of his grave she stood That was five years ago now, but it feels like yesterday His racing car still in the garage in a permanent stay Mom begs me never to go inside But every so often I go and hide Mom fears I’ll be like him She says she could never to through it again But when I get behind the wheel of that racing car My imagination wonders far Dreams of speed and the roar of the crowd In my mind it sounds so loud My daddy’s dreams passed down to me When I’m older, a racer I’ll be [comments] => 2 [counter] => 170 [topic] => 48 [informant] => Jeff_Scott_Morehead [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )
