Array ( [sid] => 81017 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Horror Show [time] => 2005-01-22 16:45:40 [hometext] => * This was partly inspired by Goose's masterpiece 'We are Tired of Asking' if you haven't read that yet then do so. This is a political poem, but I put it under dark poetry because well its dark. * [bodytext] => Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger, and are not fed, those who are cold, and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists and the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."
- Dwight Eisenhower

Faces cloaked with deceit
Their mouths have opened
Quick! Count the lies
Listen to the rhetoric
(Do you have it memorized?)
Fearful of the truth
And blinded by their stinking inability
Welcome to their horror show
Not caring about the people they "saved",
But their own greedy asses
"The elections will go forward"
Sure if anyone's left to vote
"We'll send more soldiers to provide security"
Sure send more sons and daughters to die
Because it isn't your life on the line,
But you can twitch your ears
Paste on your fake smile
And say Iraq is a model democracy
As car bombs go off in the backgroud
And prisoners provide the music
To your sickening horror show
Yes, this is freedom
(Tell that to the tens of thousand dead)
Flaunting their illegal takeover
Turning Saddam's torture houses into their own
Shooting Muslim clerics who peacefully disagree
Turning proposed freedom into a sad joke
We've all been deceived by inept "leaders",
But most of all those who bleed in the sand
Welcome to their horror show
Where lives are meaningless
And the deceiver's hands
Are cloaked in oil
With the red pooling at his feet

excellent write joel, very true. well i think this comment, will be drastically shorter than that comment on your other political piece. =] in the old days, the people in power, were in the wars, now the people in power, have their butts in leather seats with servants bringing them every want and they dont even have to think of their decisions or their speeches, others think for them. others that are stupid...

You did a good job writing this Joel, I thought you chose your words good to say what you had to say in an eloquent way. For me not being much of a politically versed person I'd say this poem was really well done. Though I'm not as extreme as you are in voicing my opinions on leaders I'm proud to know you say what you feel. This piece flowed good, and I liked how you used rhyming in it too.
Well I'm exhuasted (it's almost 1 AM) so if this comment didn't make sense I'm sorry.

Nice write
~Waos/Kara

This is an amazing poem. The lines 'Yes, this is freedom (Tell that to the tens of thousand dead)' Are the most powerful part of the poem. These two lines give the poem its maddening feeling of deception and overwhelming loss of life for a 'lost' cause. Again, this is an amazing poem.
