Array ( [sid] => 74100 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => The Madman WIthin [time] => 2004-12-02 11:01:16 [hometext] => I wrote this durring a very dark time in my life, a time when life itself seemed to conspire against me. This poem helped me cope with my emotions durring that time, and i hope that it inspires the same powerfull emotion it still inspires in me. [bodytext] => The Madman Within
By Jim Hellekson

For seventeen years I have fought it, the darker side of me. At times the fire rages inside, unknown, unseen, hidden from eyes so keen.
It is the feeling of loneliness that stokes the flames. Knowing that people really don’t care. Love, Joy, Pleasure; once feeling now just empty words. Lost in the memory of a man who knows he shouldn’t be there.
The burden is heavy, everlasting days foreshadow nights of little sleep. The night’s bitter chill hears my pain, alone with only stars to weep.
I’m lost and confused in this world, a place so uncaring to my kind. The weight of this cross grows more ponderous every day, an ever-present burden bestowed upon my mind.
My only wish now is to find a place to escape the pain. To find a world of peace, to realize a dream dreamt so many times, a place where the soul can find relief.
But as I walk though this life I realize it is only a dream, my existence has been cursed with this cruel fate. I know now that a life of perpetual sorrow is my gift, given by the man who guards the gate.
The light is only a memory now, an old friend lost to the ravages of time. But I still think about how it felt to be happy all those years ago, and inside my soul still desperately searches for a place of warmth and kindness in this life of mine.
