Not with feeling
Staring
Waiting
Waiting for me
To devour me

I catch a glimpse
Walking by a window
There it is again
I pass it in the hall

Sometimes I fight
Though I know not
What it is
Who it is
I only know
it wants me

A dark tide
That floods my heart
Overwhelming my will
Controlling my actions
As I watch in horror
Appalled at the destruction

It destroys my family
Corrupts my friends
Devours my soul
And leaves me vacant

When it passes
When it has gorged
It’s desire through my flesh
I’m left in my own anguish
For the terror it has caused
I have caused

I battle it’s dominance
And I pierce it’s heart
With the sword of light
But I feel my heart pierced
It’s pain is my own

How can I win
How can this evil be
Stopped
It has to be stopped

Who can tame the hunger
of this specter
Who can thwart the desire
Of this nameless terror

I feel it watching again
I turn quickly
it dashes away
I chase it
I won’t let it control me

I can’t catch it
I can’t see it
But I feel it’s presence
The suffocating oppression
Surrounding me

I run and run
My legs ache with the pain
My heart aches with anger

I’m blind with rage
I will destroy it
Even if it destroys me
I will take back control
I will be the Master again

I turn another corner
There it is
Staring at me
Unmoving
I see the face of my demon

The image of that face
Will haunt my soul
I fall down before it
The pain is unbearable
The shame is unbearable

The weight of a thousand
Sins falls on my shoulders
The fear of a thousand
hells falls on my heart

The face is terrible
The face is merciless
The face
Is mine [comments] => 5 [counter] => 537 [topic] => 62 [informant] => plummer [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 4 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => spiritual )

Wow. This is just...it holds so much. And the last lines...it sounds to me as if your running from yourself. Like...I don't know how to explain. This poem is just...wow.....I don't know what to say...

That was *great*, and I'm not an easy person to make say so.
I think that the character in the poem is having a personal dilemma and in the end he actually finds out that everything in the dilemma is of his own doing.

Yes, a definite WOW!!
Your pain comes through very strong in your words, very well expressed. I think you're fighting yourself, my son was kind of going through the same stuff, although he's only 15. Keep fighting your demons, if you want it bad enough, you can do it. Good luck, awesome poem!

I think the poem is talking about some kind of addiction and how its effecting that person and those around them, am I right? Good poem! Angel

You've handled the subject well and kept me guessing almost to the end. One criticism, and it's small, you want to use its not it's. It's is "it is," and the possessive is "its."
