To soar through the blistering wind
You flew into my stormy path
And so my story begins.
From the edge of an impossible cliff
You bandaged my wounded wing,
And carried me off into the sky
Where such passionate songs we would sing.
Looking down upon the world
With all its sorrow and defeat,
You put me up on a pedestal,
High above the scary streets.
You constructed a nest
That we filled with such love
And for a while I forgot
Who I really was.
But I let fear in and let you down,
Brought our precious world crumbling to the ground.
I ran back to my comfortable edge
And left you alone out there on that ledge.
A heart weakened before you came along
Tried to do right but it has turned out all wrong.
And now I can never hold you again,
Because you were the eagle, but I was the wren.

Ohhhhh I love the title/closing line! I've felt this way myself about someone. Turns out, maybe, I wasn't as small as I thought. I hope you feel the same soon as well. There's an eagle in all of us, I think --- just waiting to soar.

Well done,
SNM

This is so sad...personally i've been here in my mind, but usually that's all it was---i'd get too melodramatic and just make things to be worse than they really were. I know the feeling nevertheless, and it came out so clearly throughout the poem..and the last lines simply hammered it back into me. This was such a good poem, but so sad at the same time(then again, most are). Good work!.

I found this to be a fascinating write.
I'm taking an Ecology class, and when I read the
title, I didn't expect it to be what it was. I found
something better. :)
It's cute, and sad.
Hope all is well,
T_U
