Sorrow and Joy

"WHAT IS YOUR SECRET?"

Comments come and comments go.....
Good comments, bad comments
please let us know.....
Wouldn't be poets if not very sensitive!!!
How many comments are you willing to give?

Do you feel if you comment.....
A comment to you is owed?
I love to read all the poetry
Must I comment, or you're angry?

Some are so troubled deep within.....
They leave this beautiful site, diseased,
"No Comment Chagrin"
Do you write for comments only?
Stating, "No comments, I leave crudely?"

I must tell you about Norm Turkel,
right here on YPDC!
He's legally blind, extremely hard to post,
can't comment on poems for you?
Yet, Norm's poetry is very special!!!
Does he mind, if only a few comment?
Does he crumble?

Well, I asked him does he mind?
He replied, "I love writing poetry!"
I add, "Me too, we're both resigned!"
Many a year writing, not one critique!
Might be old, but we're not bleak!

Ask yourself please, "Why do I write?"
"Without comments, will I be all right?"
Don't take me wrong please.....
Everyone likes comments from our buddies!

It's your turn, tell us "Your secret!"
What do you feel about this issue?
please come out of your "Comment Closet."
When you comment, please write the truth.....
Tell us your feelings? Older plus youth!

We'll be waiting, calmly, to hear.
No one is going to judge you, no fear.
Is it our attitude? Maybe a bad day?
Should we be offended? No comments,
Will you still stay?

Comments are a good way to get feedback. I am too old to worry about whether some-one comments or not. I do not always feel well enough to make as many comments as I would like. If I have a good day I comment or if a poem strikes me as being extra good I will comment. on my bad or off days I just give points bernard.

Ahhhh yes when someone does something, its always nice to know how it was received....but as for me....its like knowing someone read it..I can see by the number even if only one....but then at my age any sensations is a sensation.

Always love reading your poems. Thank you so much for sharing.

Chris

Odd, I was just reading the forum on honest comments, so this fits right in. I love to leave comments if I like the work, I try to be constructive if I don't, or I won't leave one.
Thanks ConSue for another important topic covered, and I love the way you do it!!

A little secret it took me way too long to learn. Life doesn't hand you the things you are desperate for. The best loves are those you weren't looking for. The best friendships are those you aren't desperately trying to get. The best comments come when you aren't expecting any. :-)

Cool write, Connie..... I write from my heart because I just need to get things out..... I would never leave a site because I don't get comments.
I am sorry that I don't comment as much now as I used to, and I know that I am missing out commenting on a lot of great poems. But I DO read lots of them but I have a legitimate resaon why I CAN'T comment on all that I read.....
I think you may know the reason...
Hugs and Love,
Jenni

I write because I have to, want to... for myself. I would post regardless of whether comments came or not. I would, though, feel quite frustrated if I couldn't comment on the pieces that intrigue me, move me, impressed me... astound me. Were there no way to comment - it would truly, truly be a shame... comments here have powerful effects - not the least of which is how a simple "thank you for your comment" can become a conversation... which goes into a friendship.

Sincerely thankful for each and every comment... and... each and every friendship grew from one,
SNM

The secret is that there is no secret LOLOL

I'm in a similar boat as Bernard - not a leaky one though :o) -> if something I've written is read that's fine, if it touches someone, that's a bonus.

On criticism of my writings... I've not been placed on this earth to please everyone, nor in fact, do I try.

As for your write, it's great to see someone take a current topic and write a good spiel.

Jordan oxo

PS... I've learnt to disable the "Start each line with a capital" option in Word :o))

Comments are not important to me as much as being able to post my work and seeing that people do consistently read them. I outgrew needing my peers approval years ago. I don't generally write my poetry for others, unless I dedicate it to someone in particular. I write to ease feeling inside me or as a gift for mh grandchildren. Comments are nice, but they simply do not make my world revolve. I can and do live without them.

i love this! and that's an honest comment!, i suppose we all have our reasons for posting our poetry and admittingly good feedback is an ego boost.
It's a shame if people left the site because there work isn't commented on enough, we all have our reasons for writing my reason being because i feel compelled to and trust me i've written some rubbish in my time ( big cheer from YPDC poets for saying what everybody's thinking!) but whatever your reasons for doing what you do wether it be poetry or free fall parachuting (slight contrast!) the thing is to ENJOY what you do and i believe you cann't wholy enjoy yourself if you're taking any pursuit to seriously, for me poetry is a beautiful distraction and anybody who writes or attempts to write even if it's just a line or two of an idea should give themselves a bloody big pat on the back, smile inwardly and with pride and confidence say "
i did that".

Bravo.. good point . Comments are helpful to tell the writer whether their intent of the poem is understood. Or at least written with a underlaying theme or thought. I joined this site coz thats what I get. Honest reactions to my writes. And I hope I submit helpful responses too.

sometimes a poem moves you in such a way no words can express...
sometimes you feel helpless to heal the emptiness
i write for me but i share with all
if no comments left i will not fall

What is my secret ?
I have been posting here less than a month, I am still very new, still very inexperienced. I admit, I do eagerly each morning look to see what my newest ( ok honestly, all of them ) posts have done in my absence. I do like to see through comments how my work is recieved, but I don't comment on all that I read. I can't exect that from others either. As a new member I try to comment frequently so that many people will see my name. I investigate the writings of all who leave me comments. I don't expect all of my words to be recieved equally, as my writing style changes frequently. I cannot be judged for what I feel ( there is one who will eventually get to do that ). I try to feel what I write which leaves only the way I have expressed myself open to debate. My advice for new poets, patience, participation, perserverence. Comments may be slow at first, but as you become more actively known, your writing will be sought out. I think, or maybe ... I hope.

Nazmythian ~

The first comment I got it blew me away but in a good way ofcourse.
Comments are great as they encourage the writer.
what really makes me feel good is down the line somewhere a person tells me I'm one of the first on the site to comment-n-encourage.
Then when someone comes along and tells u that the poem u jus posted was jus what they needed to hear.
Yeah, comments are a good thing.
I comment 'cause I appreciate good poetry.
Someone ask me why they aren't getting comments, well I jus tell um if they want comments then comment on others poetry.
This great global family here is still growing with leaps-n-bounds so it's not possible for me to stay up with everyone. That doesn't mean that I don't want to stay up it jus means there's not enuff time. Being one of the older members that's been here over four years I can't even keep up with older members that's been here a while too. I'm sure tho we understand each other.
Great write, Moom.
luv, huggs, smiles, comnments,
yo brat,

Great words from a wise person! I write my feelings down not often but when I do I dont write them on here for comments although they make me smile when I know someone out there read it! I think the first couple of times they made me cry! So I guess they do matter ! I try to comment on peoples work as much as I can even when I didnt post a poem for a while,But with 3 kids its hard for me to get on & stat connected without someone crying!!!!!!!!!!! LOL! I love Norm's writes
and always leave him a line
If I have the time,
I add in some rhyme
From Norm's words,
I'll never flee
though I sadly miss
his thoughts on me

I don't write to get comments, but I do like to hear people's opinions...I write to express my self...to get what I'm feeling out...its a great feeling when someone else writes back and tells you how they relate...so wonderful to be able to connect with other people...to make them see things the way you do, cheer them up bring them down...the emotions that go into writing and reading these poems writen by others has always made me feel great...its an amazing thing to be able to put your feelings on paper and for others to understand!

even though this was written a while ago, it still seems to be a problem here. people never settle for less than what they think they can get. some people cant handle the truth on this site. they think their work is perfect. and excellent write and quote as always consue.
