Array ( [sid] => 59922 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Watermelon Days Wishes [time] => 2004-08-12 18:42:03 [hometext] => A bit of wistfulness, a bit of nostalgia, a bit of sadness . . . many thanks to Phil for her help and for being a general soundingboard^^. [bodytext] => please somebody paint me a picture
of those watermelon days
with vivid shades of green
for the smooth rind
and swift brushstrokes
painting in the soft red hues
of my particular slice
and naive blue skies overhead

but no snapshot could capture it all

so please, if you can, find a way to add
the feel of that sticky juice
that trickles down your face
and runs in rivulets between your fingers
and that fruity, fragrant scent
you can almost taste
and the sweetness of juicy perfection
that tastes like innocence and optimism
and the way that hot concrete sidewalk
feels beneath you
and the warmth of the beaming sun o'erhead
and the sound of your laughter
for no reason at all

and then, if you don't mind,
please wrap it all up in pretty paper
put a bow on it
and set it on my doorstep
eighty years from now.

(that is, of course,
assuming I can manage to stop myself
from asking for the package sooner--
like tomorrow, or today,
because I'm missing and needing
my watermelon days
more and more, lately . . .) [comments] => 13 [counter] => 261 [topic] => 44 [informant] => ShadowDaughter [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 24 [ratings] => 6 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Nostalgic )

In my experience, watermelon is so much better when shared with close friends ... when that package arrives ... be sure to invite someone over !!

You made my mouth water, dangit !! Now I gotta go get a melon. Another brilliant illustration of your talent. Thank you.

Naz ~

This is a truly beautiful write. I've been there before, I think. I love the way you've worded this. You're a true poet, my dear.
Lots of love and peace be with you,

Chelsea

I like this one a lot. The simplicity and purity of style and imagery conveys the message very well. But that's become a hallmark of your writing. I can relate to this entirely. Funny, though, I can't remember those days all that well.
beautiful piece of work here. Take care, friend who defies ravenous cannibalistic sheep.
