The troops will tell you soon enough
When they dare
When the fear of Bush and their superiors
is not there

When they talk with you alone
In whispers at first
Then in tears
Then in rage

So many brothers…
…dead
So many minds…
…destroyed
So many lies…
…told

You are being told lies about Iraq

And those who
Could tell you the truth
Believe you wouldn’t want to hear
Or else keep silent
Out of loyalty
Out of patriotism
Or fear

You are being told lies about Iraq

Military Intelligence
Controls this with fear

You are being told lies about Iraq

It doesn’t suit them
Or the politicians
For you to hear

You are being told lies about Iraq

About victory
About freedom
About democracy

Before, the lies were
On WMDs
On terrorism
On al Qai’da

Don’t believe for a moment
You were told lies
In error

You are being told lies about Iraq

They keep telling them
Because the truth is too bad
Because although they were wrong
They can’t admit it
It just CAN’T be true

So the lies go on
While each mother grieves
For another lost son

While the anger grows to a scream of hate
While a land descends to chaos
While Bush squirms for a way to escape

The lies go on

And the consequences of their lies

Trauma
Disfigurement
Dismemberment
Horrific Injury
Destruction
Death

And behind these, an awesome horrific sound
The screams of rage at American lies
By Iraqis and U.S. Troops both
While a son on both either side… dies

You are being told lies about Iraq

Oh fine, Steel. Just forget about me, an American soldier, working his ass off to get Bush booted.

Just kidding. Yeah, I never hit the sandbox (although it's looking more and more like I'll be seeing it next year), but I know how it feels to be torn away from your friends and family and having no clue as to when you're going to see home again. You sound like you know American soldiers who went through the experience. Do you know any?
