How could I sleep after losing you?
I see you when I close my eyes,
Remember everything from the last two weeks--
I refuse to let myself cry.

I drive myself insane with questions...
Would you still have wanted her when you met if we'd been together?
I guess it doesn't matter anymore
Since she has your heart in her hand--
You have mine under your boot.

Remembering our talk last fall on your front porch...
I couldn't hide the tears even though I tried.
I wanted to walk out of your life for good,
But you wouldn't let me leave you like that--
We managed to work it out then.

You know how much I love you...
With our history, you'd be blind not to know.
You see through my smile to the broken heart,
Through the understanding to my bitter tears--
She burned all our bridges for us.

The war was over before it began...
She wanted you regardless of the cost.
I wouldn't fight a battle I knew I'd lose,
So she had no problems reclaiming you--
The price ended up being our friendship and my happiness.

My heart can't take the pain anymore...
Even if I found another, how could I open my heart again?
I wish I could turn my emotions into ice,
Drop the cold part of your heart that you left me with--
But I lie here feeling it all...your emotional punching bag.
