It's been months since I've "slept".
Long months.
Hard months.

I just cannot sleep.
There's no reason why.
Sleep just won't come.

The doctor doesn't know why.
The psychologist doesn't know why.
I don't know why.

I try to envision things, but it doesn't help.
I try counting, that doesn't help either.
Not even all the medication helps.

And no one knows why.
They can't figure it out.
They say I'm a difficult case.

When I do get the privilege of sleep,
It is fitful and I awake every ten minutes or so.
If I'm lucky, it all adds up to two hours, but most nights, not even two minutes.

Nobody understands.
It's so frustrating.
Why do I suffer from this?

People yell at me to sleep.
But I can't.
It's not my fault.

Don't they know I'd love to?
Don't they know I try, unsuccessfully, night after night?
I really want to, I try to, but it doesn't work.

I hear people all the time complaining about how they only got six hours of sleep.
Would you people all just shut up?
Just because you usually get eight to ten hours of sleep a night doesn't mean everyone else does!

Okay, you live off eight to ten hours of sleep a night.
I live off zero to two.
Try that, how much do you want to bet you can't deal with it as long as I have?

I can't focus.
I'm so exhausted.
I can't perceive things.

I truly hate this.
It's not fair.
What did I do to deserve this?
