I talk to you without fail every week,
You ease my worries and my pain,
It is you that I rely on to keep me sane.

I like the fact that you don’t utter a word,
You listen to me when I sound absurd,
When others would laugh and stare at me,
You take away my fears and let me be.

You let me talk to you right into the night,
With no resistance or a verbal fight,
In you I confide all my secrets,
I know that in our friendship you’ll never forget.

As I wake, your promise of companionship is still lingering,
You’re louder than a dawn chorus or the birds of spring,
Now you’re hammering inside my head,
It is now my turn to let you talk instead.

You stay with my the whole day through,
My heads in a thousand bits, I don’t know what to do,
All I know is one thing, and the one thing that I’m thinking,
Is that I am another fool that’s addicted to drinking.
