And proffered me her pain
And through the stench of alcohol
Her words were clear and plain

She said, "I've been a wife, been a mother, and a friend
Never know which way I'm going
Or exactly where I've been
Many years of humble service
Have bestowed on me a price
And with my heart I've paid my dues
The required sacrifice
And now at this stage of my life
I'm left alone to dread
What remains in store for me
What paths may lie ahead
I fear this isolation, that is enveloping me
And through the bottle I have found a way to be set free
I pray you never compromise
By living life for others
That you allow your self-respect
To not be tried or smothered
Be wise when caring for your one and onlys every day
Do not neglect to love what lies within you along the way"

Emotion trickled down my cheek
Her words cut to the bone
I vowed that day to never be
A woman turned to stone

In case I haven't said it before, I think you are highly talented. You continue to produce elegant, touching and profound works that bring insight and truth.

Very well done.
