As I lay in that lonely bed my world shook
Two nights ago the earth beneath
It rocked away and my fears were took
A four point eight quake waved by
If it gets any stronger
I thought to myself
The floor will give way
Like an unstable shelf
I wished it had, for this I'm prepared
'Yes' I thought, at last
Something's actually happening
No longer this feeling of just limbo
Not knowing whether or not anything
I am tired of fear ruling supreme
If my world had collapsed
I'm ready to start a clean
But no such luck as it faded away
Now all I'm doing is waiting until the day
Waiting and praying for the next
It'll probably be about another ten years
But until then I shall not rest
Isn't it strange how just a few seconds
Of what could've been total devastation
Has me hooked on the feeling of relief.
I know those frequented will say
Four point eight that's nothing
But I'm not in the game of comparison
And when you don't get the chance to be blasé
These such wonderful feelings
Are amplified out of proportion
I love the fragile ground I walk upon
Probably because I bother to understand it
Most others I've heard panicked
But not I
Although I did take one second to look outside
In the dark for a mushroom cloud
But never thought to find one
As I hear and take heed

Dean, I can't even imagine what it is like to be in an earthquake. I have never been in one and don't want to be in one. They scare me, just the idea of the ground moving, is enough to scare me. But this is a very good poem in my view.

It really woke me up Candice,
I was already awake as it was only about 1am, but it made me realise for real just how small and insignificant we are!
Sort of like the things we hear astonauts saying about how seeing the planet from outer space makes them feel, I think!
I'm pleased to hear you like it, you're giving me loads of encouragement as well as the confidence boost!

With love
Dean:-)
