Preserving Our Love

What is this pain?
That burns deep inside
Could it be the remnants?
Of the love that I hide

Why is there a smile?
Amidst the pain I feel
Because the love we shared
I still know is real?

What is this tear?
Bringing joy to my face
Could it be it remembers?
Another time, another place?

Even tho you’re gone
I know our love was meant to be
And even amidst loneliness and pain
That truth will always be

Even now your love
Refuses to abandon my soul
Changing tears beginning as pain
Into the sweetest memories of love I know

This heart will adamantly refuse
To allow our love to become
A monument to misery
As happens to some

On this hope my heart will stand
Will never acquiesce to the pain
Believing the flower of our love
Will blossom again after the rain

Believing someday, somehow
When all other work is done
Two hearts that love preserved
Can again be as one

Russ

This kind of love I know. Nothing or no one can ever replace that one certain person in your heart. I know this pain and I know this joy. I also know this is a lovely piece of work.
