There’s something I can’t put my finger on
I’m not really sure if I’m the one to blame
It’s like all of the feeling has gone

The emptiness leaves me feeling blue
And I wish that you weren’t slipping away
When I say I love you that’s what I mean I LOVE YOU
I will understand if you can’t stay

If I love you I should set you free
That’s what I have always heard
I can’t help but feel how unfair it is to me
You’re free to go and I promise not to utter a word

Just know when you leave you have my heart
A simple reminder of someone who cares
These feelings I have for you will never part
And if you need me call me and I’ll be there

What a sad poem Suzy. It is sadly true that we can not make anyone else love us nor can we ever be assured that another will love as we do. It is always a feeling of unfairness though, when someone accepts our heart then decides that it is not what they really wanted. In this situation I have felt like they are the only ones who had any rights and my feelings did not count anymore. On the flip side, I always feel it is the most humane thing to do, in leaving ,if I am the one who has fallen out of love. Either side, it is a very sad time. Your emotions are very clear in your poem. Good job!
Take care,
Sherry

I know the feeling all to well, still carry a tourch for a lover who left me thirty-four years ago -- I was as much to blame but it hurt then and it hurts still -- I've a new poem coming soon.

Yours is a good poem full of the raw hurt and fear of the situation. Well done!
