[bodytext] => It’s Middle America vs. The Rest And who can say who knows the best? Middies thinks it’s good to be real tough Show ‘em who’s strong, treat ‘em rough Resties take care what the wider world thinks Not wanting them to believe America stinks But Middies could care less WHAT they like The rest of the world can take a hike! Middies like to hear they are the best Often totally prideful and a pest Though sometimes they can be right Take positive action, sometimes bright The Resties are focussed on what’s truly best Try to be thoughtful but with zest Protecting nature and vulnerable soul Creating harmony an important goal Two polarized camps with opposing views And some in the middle so confused Can there possibly be an agreeable path? A way to avoid ugly aftermath? If it wasn’t for September 11 and all that pain The Bush administration would be pretty lame Only voted for by half the population It should have sought co-operation But as it was they took so much power And now ask you to confirm their glory hour Give them a mandate to push through a tougher line Or preserve consensus for yours and mine? The Middies may go for short term gain Build egos, bank balances & bigoted pain But what goes around comes round in time And what starts as cop-out ends up as crime In the end the results of erroneous paths Are inevitable as taxman or of maths An escape into ego and breast-beating chant Will surely end in a ruinous rant Ignorance survives for a very short time And will distort all that you do An ego boost now is such small change The benefits truly few As the world looks on as America decides In November 2004 We are truly hoping for a friendlier face Not a loudly closing door The path of arrogant and violent men Is seen as easy from the first But repentance lasts much longer And you may end up truly cursed Why not turn a corner to a wiser way? Avoid the ignorant route Bush guides you to more fear, Mindless piper and deadly flute Those watching hope both Middies and Resties Will turn away from the road to hate And discover in surprise a welcoming world Waiting friendly behind that gate [comments] => 0 [counter] => 148 [topic] => 41 [informant] => Steeleyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => political )
