Array ( [sid] => 31626 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Please, Mr. Bush! [time] => 2004-01-14 00:18:09 [hometext] => My Reservist friends and I got home from defending our country and now we can't even find a decent job! It's looking more and more like active duty is the only way to pay our bills. [bodytext] => Went off to fight a war
Thanks a lot, the people say
But now I've got 50 bills
And no money to pay

My old job would've took me back
But why do that
When I'm making more on unemployment?
Does any of this make sense?

So please Mr. Bush, send me back to war
I don't care why, I don't care what for
I'll go wherever with no arguments
Just please-let me pay my rent!

Will AGR lead the way?
Working at my reserve unit everyday?
I don't know, maybe I will
As long as it can pay my bills

Bush doesn't believe in minimum wage
But he keeps giving soldiers pay raises
The rich get richer, the poor get poorer
So let the poor become soldiers!

So please Mr. Bush, send me back to war
I don't care why, I don't care what for
I'll go wherever without an argument
Just please-let me make my car payments!

I can't even explain the humiliation
Of living with your parents as a war veteran!
But that's the situation me and my friends live in
They can barely feed their kids

Please Mr. Bush, tell me why
Is the cost of living so high?
Even my civilian friends have 2 occupations
Just so they can live in this nation

So please Mr. Bush, send us back to war
To live in this country, we can't afford
We don't even care what the war is
Just please-let us feed our kids! [comments] => 7 [counter] => 229 [topic] => 41 [informant] => DJ_The_Young_Grasshopper [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 6 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => political )

It is a shame that those who are willing and want to work can't find decent paying jobs with health benefits. And you are right, the rich are getting richer everyday while the rest of us are little more than slave labor. I say get that damned Republican regime out of Washington before we all end up in living in the street.

You wrote a very good poem about a very important topic - good luck to you

Those who put their lives on the line for this country should be treated as royalty when they return. Bush and this administration tried to CUT the pay of soldiers while they were fighting in his war. Never will a rich man understand the plight of those who struggle even to feed their children. My daughter is still in Iraq, she was forced to drop out of college because she was called up to service. Men and women both have lost jobs and family owned companies have gone belly up while they were fighting for this country. Shameful!!! Every man and woman of voting age should cast a ballet for change when the time comes. I thank you for serving and pray that you find a good job soon. God bless you and all who serve.

Here in the UK there is nothing new about
the callous disregard meeted out to demobilised servicemen. From as far back as Napoleonic times the ports we littered with sailors from "Nelsons ships" who had lost arms, legs, eyes or worse, been discharged without a penny and left to beg.
Things have improved but not all that much. Nations are impoverished by war and industry is distorted, The redeployment of manufacture and resources is normally too slow to absorb the returning servicemen.
This is not the case in the USA today. Such is the resilience and diversity of the economy that it can support Space exploration, Weapon developement, Research into medicine, computing, new materials and a million developing products.

Todays' weaponry has reduced the need for servicemen. Technology has put an end to conventional war. i.e. in yesteryear 90% of missiles/bulletas/bombs etc missed their target. Now that figure has been reduce to less than 5%. No enemy can take the battlefield against such superiority.

So they resort to terrorism and in consequence we need soldiers and we are back were we started.

An excelent poem. At least you have a voice and a vote but are you organised to use them?

Sad ain't the word for this. It's a shame!
I feel out with Bush when a court ordered the folks we're fighting for to pay them x amount of dollars as they were prisoners od war. Bush stands up and says No we gonna use that to rebuild their country. I figure if he can't take care of our soilders then what to **** him for?
One of Bush's supporters contacted me to support him, u know the politicle game. I din't hesitate to give them my veiws on the subject and I said that I had no more to do with him. Course I didn't recieve a reply and it didn't hit the news. I don't know where u r but someone needs to get this write to the media.
Hang in there.
huggs, luv, thanks and admiration for truth,
emy

This was a good honest write. I don't have much of an occupation and I am angry enough about that as it is. I would be livid if in your situation. Great write though.
