When there's no choice it's easy to choose;
If you can't make a choice, make a decision;
You can't win if you opt to lose;
To believe it is half the battle; and,
Possession is nine-tenths the law.
But real life doesn't go the way of the sages,
and these adages stick in my craw!

Now, if all that philosophy inspires you,
well, some folks are luckier than others.
It would just be nice, as a change of pace,
if those guys had a chat with our mothers;
and learned what's really important and true.
You know what I mean, I don't doubt it!
We could all chuckle as Plato rolled over in his grave.
(And I smile now, as I think about it!)

Those flowery phrases, while nice, miss the point.
And to tell you the truth, I don't buy it.
Mom gave us pearls for living and learning.
Words you've passed on, don't deny it:

Don't run with the scissors; be first to say I'm sorry;
And, make sure your undies are clean.
You can't choose your siblings, but they're yours for life.
And, he won't buy the cow, if milk's free.
Always sit like a lady; take time to smell the roses;
Don't talk with your mouth full; don't boast;
Never go to bed angry; always give to those in need;
And, you can't take it with you when you go;
Be as good as your word; no one rides for free;
A day's work deserves a day's pay.

Hats off to you, mother, for the wisdom you shared,
And the gems that I use every day!

I loved the quirkiness of this poem.Made me smile.
Mom, Mum, mama.....all to describe the same person, where would we be without them ?
