I can no longer sip coffee overlooking the sea
No longer feel the warmth of Summer kissing my face as I wake to a new day
Peace and tranquility fading into memory

The stars do not shine as brightly through my veil of clouds
I cannot watch the sun stretch its fingers far across the water
Hear the birds chorus daybreak in sweet soothing tone
Or the whisper of leaves from the high palms above

There was an easiness there
A comforting caress of sand between my toes
A sense of time perfectly slowed, a long pause for breath
But time is not stopped, it marches on

Too soon everything neatly packed away
One last look, one more vain camera click
The real world crept up behind me
Wished too eagerly to claim me back

I think about that final day,my temporary home on which I turned the key
Not just the wardrobes that were left empty, I took an emptiness with me
Rain drills the night air as it taps upon my window
Mocks me, reminds me that I'm home

Daydreaming, capturing moments of the past
Frames of time like photographs I keep as souvenirs
I drift off again to the beauty of that place
And walk once more, silently, on a sunlit beach.
