Chain mail rings jingle
As he stomps across the hall
His jaw set in determination
He did not expect to fall in love
He had not planned on it at all
She arrived unannounced and alone
An unusual woman – extraordinary
She had stood in his hall and argued with him
Bold as brass she was
And he stopped listening to her
Instead he saw her mouth
Thought of her kisses
Stopped listening to her
Watched the rise and fall of her breasts
As she breathed angrily
Yes, she was angry with him
He had taken her land, all that was hers
It was his due – it was not personal he assured her
She threatened to burn it to the ground
He knew she meant every word of it
He pulled her into his arms
Punished her insolence with his harsh kiss
But she refused to bend to his will
She slapped him hard across the face
Stinging his pride and piquing his temper
He made up his mind then and there
He would marry her – make her submit
Yes, that had been the plan
But now that the wedding day had arrived
He realized he was caught in her web
And smiling to himself he was glad to be
She had brought light to his darkness
A song to his silence
And love to his emptiness
She had found the chink in his armor
And conquered his heart
