in love with something that wasn’t

dreaming of something that isn’t

falling over and over again

down the same staircase

in doldrums of unpleasant rehearsal

with the repetition of words

ringing in the ears like church bells

recalling crimes of omission

cradled in wretched atrophy

a soul sprung lose from the jar

unable to find safe harbor

in hearts so tightly closed and barred

eyes turn from gray to green

reflecting the turmoil of the sea

scrubbing the sins from her shores

never ending thankless job

spitting back the bits and pieces

that cannot be digested by god

transgressions and misdemeanors

cataloged on her forearms

scarred by her self loathing pitiful excuses

ramming into distant shores

headfirst screaming diabolic wind

slams the mariner of hearts

until he sheds tears of hope

that all is not lost in this forlorn love

he has carried inside his coat

from the beginning tracing a name

on the horizon that would one day find him

and the voice of an angel whispers

secrets of life and death divulged in an instant

of recognition and divinity

heaped upon his head in gentle strokes

calling out her name to him

the one he has waited for

this was friggin awesome! I loved the language you used in this poem so poetic and well-written.
transgressions and misdemeanors
cataloged on her forearms
I loved those two lines very brilliantly said.
