I have done some horrible things in the name of freedom, watched my brothers and sisters enter God's Kingdom,
Taken lives that didn't belong to me, I have prayed for closure but the memories will forever haunt me,
Flashbacks of blood soaked sand and holding a dieing man's hand,

I seek forgiveness, but feel there is none to find, bow my head and pray, will the Lord give me a sign,
What I've seen, what I've done, left only with memories, I guess I am one of the lucky ones,
Embedded scars, hidden to the eye, reliving the nightmare, cover my face and cry,
A mindless zombie from time to time, I just zone out and try and escape my own mind,

A life of service with the scars to prove it, ready to give my life at a moments notice,
I served my country when others wouldn't, I fought for freedom when others couldn't,
I stood the ground when others fell, to tell the truth, I've been through hell,
But given the choice, I'd do it again, the Army made me the man I am,

August 1st 2015, I will retire for the United States Army,
20 Years of my life, the emotions I feel are as sharp as a knife,
Leaving the Force is the scariest thing I'll ever do, it's all I've known and that's the truth,
I raise this glass and offer a toast...

" To all the men and women that have served by my side, the ones that are alive, and the ones who paid the ultimate price. I salute you, love you and will forever be connected to you. Until I leave this world you will always be with me, and I will always remember, Freedom isn't free."

Forever Faithful

I know I have thanked you before and feel that's not enough compared to what you have done and gone through but basically, that's all I've got. The undying appreciate is there but still not enough.

This is the kind of poem that chokes me up.

You're a good man, Matt. We salute men like you too.

Take care of yourself.

Tim
