Still reeling from the energy it took
On to creating a new Christmas surprise
To mirror the magic in my child's eyes

Boxes of tinsel and lights clutter the floor
Sorting through each to find the right décor
Singing off key to carols on the stereo
Unsure where this year's theme will go

He walks in and asks, whatcha doing here
I'm getting ready for Christmas, my dear
Decorating the tree, shelves, and four walls
Must get the house perfect for Santa Claus

Each room will reflect our Christmas pride
Look on his face stops me in mid-stride
You mean, without decorations or a tree
Santa Claus won't bring a present to me

Gathering him upon my lap as I realize
My grownup vision is clouding his eyes
Little one let me tell you a precious story
Of what Christmas truly is and its glory

One cold night long ago in a far off land
Heralded by Angels with trumpets grand
Appeared a bright star meant to lead the way
To the birth of a precious child on this day

For on this very first Christmas morn
The Son of God, our Savior, was born
Sent to give hope and love to all who cared
The joy of Christmas is meant to be shared

See, Christmas is more than tinsel and toys
More than Santa's list of good girls and boys
Christmas is the day we celebrate his birth
Given by God to teach us our Heavenly worth

It's also a day to gather family and friends
To hold close memories that will never end
He smiles as he whispers, may God Bless us
Let's wish everyone a very Merry Christmas [comments] => 2 [counter] => 201 [topic] => 18 [informant] => dvtpdw [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Holiday Poetry )
