It's going through my house, and throwing things out
Tuesdays and Fridays I am freed from material prison
As I put recyclables and garbage in their big old bins

I drive along the streets, with profanity I mutter
At the the sight of some garages, and their endless clutter
But I look to my left and I stop and I smile
At the sight of a truck en route to a waste management pile

There's nothing more that sends my mind into fits
When I go to friend's houses and there's nowhere to sit
Yes I'm anal and touched with OCD
But the sight of a clean spacious room makes me doggone happy

A pack rat or a hoarder for sure I am not
To me, zero adds up to a lot

A message to those whose houses and offices are a mess
Viven con menos, learn to live with less
With the least, you will be at your best
Nothing stuffs the face and eyes like a big old empty nest

There's nothing that enrages me more, makes me angry
Than a counter laced with half filled glasses, and wrappers from candy
I will tell you once before I explode, I am not a liar
The crumbs sitting on the kitchen stove are sure to start a fire

I submitted my Christmas list, mama looked at me said
Son, you need that football like you need a hole in the head
Looking back at my career, if doing it again
I would wake up, suit up, and be a garbage man

A pack rat or a hoarder for sure I am not
To me, zero adds up to a lot

Damn, all that talk of half-filled glasses, candy wrappers, and crumbs is going to send me on a cleaning tear! Eeeek. I have lost or had stolen so many material things in life, that matters little at this point. It's not like it comes to the grave with us...Sometimes my inner hoarder comes out with sentimental things, but a good spring cleaning every once and awhile takes care of that.

Geez. I'm sure there was room for a little pigskin though! :(

I really like this poem! I'm "mildly" OCD myself, according to a shrink I saw years back. My daughter would say, much more than mildly.

I can't stand the messes either and my mom used to say the same thing about needing something like a hole in the head.

Thank you for a great read.

Tim
