the poet now old and ever so weak
writing a last few scribblings meek
reflecting upon lifes last moments
breath draws in and out- most spent
though this does make one awful sad-
all the neighbors think the poet mad
the eyes they close and heart it slows
one candle near- flickers and glows

out in those streets the breezes blew
the young they sang and love was new
though in dark of quiet room- all alone
distant fleeting memories were shown
there- no simple remedy or death cure
poets life passed quickly by in pictures
one soul ever loosing creativitys power
remains soon under earth and flowers

lines penned throughout long lived life
rhymes mostly flowing, breathing bite
remembering the sweetest loves kiss
these are the things the poet will miss
as death came knocking upon the door
the poet sighed, i will pen no more
from the lowest point the ocean cried
above the clouds bright was the sky

I think you may have given many poets a glimpse of what's ahead.

Well done.

This poet be very strong, indeed. If I were on my death bed, I'd be *****, I'm sure.

There was a certain beauty in this and the scene was so vivid, especially the last line!!!

So sad, yet so beautiful.

Thank you,

Tim

So beautifully and elegantly written... To me, beneath the sadness of death, I feel also the warmth of the rememberance of the poet's life in her/his last moments - which fits so perfectly with the title 'pink sunset'.
The poem feels to me to acknowledge the beauty in the poet's life as well as the address the inevitability of death in a way that is subtle, yet very touching. This is wonderful to read :)

Interesting, 'Pink Sunset:' ~ Seems as gentle moment this passing viewed by her poet whom brushed reflective's canvas...Writing, for many is but a million shards of glass a piece in a vast puzzle to help see them through this moment in time ~ Truly, once truth finds `Wisdom we somehow understand how minute these blurred visions which pass our eyes by, they are; or maybe its just myself whom feels this way ? A toast unto her dreamers....

This is racked with grief and torment, but so beautifully penned. Yes, I suppose we will live on...Through our writes, through our children, in the hearts of loved ones.

The line:

All the neighbours think the poet mad...

It made me think of earlier this week while I was at my son's taekwondo class. The beginnings of a write suddenly struck me, and there I was, OCD-to-the-max, counting (with fingers), my syllables. It didn't take too long before I could feel the burn of a dozen sets of eyes on me. I was mortified that these strangers thought I was still hung up on basic math concepts...lol...But then I threw caution to the wind and buried my thoughts back in my poem.
Yeah, we are a strange brew alright! :P
