But now has wounds of ravaged time that seep for all to see
Oppression takes it's prisoner, strangles with bare hands
Wrists are bound, blindfold tight to anything but the lie

Weighted dice still role a fate and steal the spirit song
Dreams now tiny grains of sand, all scattered to the winds
Thoughts a plague of embers, nothing burning in the fire
Darkness and foreboding drilling deeper in the skull

Heading for tomorrow, yet hope ransacked by yesterday
Fear assaults the psyche, veils and cloaks they eyes
The watcher waits in silent hope to steal the perfect time
But the flames of doubt are far too high for the phoenix to rise

Every new beginning trips over expectation
The path to walk familiar, the footsteps ready made
Eyes raise to scan horizons, seeking virgin ground
Resigned we scream from empty lungs, life is a 4 letter word. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just write our lives. How perfect would that be?

An incredibly well written poem. Sometimes I can pick favorite lines from a poem but with this one....no. They're all great in my opinion and you really did hit the nail on the head.

Bravo! and thank you for posting.

Thank you as well for reading and commenting on my latest contribution.

Hi,

I know - life sucks, then you die!

If you or I or someone we know (and I don't
mean to be sarky here) was destined to climb
everest backwards - or - destined to resolve
every war-torn situation throughout the
world with brilliant diplomacy - or destined
to contrive a plan that will bring an end to
world hunger - we would have realised this
artistry long before we concluded how
'ordinary' we are. Yet, being ordinary puts
us in the majority and makes us stronger
collectively so that we are able to bring
pressure, where pressure is needed,
regarding the injustices of life.

If we look at the age-old cliche ''The meaning
of Life'' my personal take on that is that we
should always consider how best to enhance
the lives of those we love and those with
whom we share planet. You've done that
today for me by writing this thoughtful piece
of self-examination poetry that addresses
most of us in our deliberations of ourselves,
with ''honesty and the desire to do more''
which politicians, tycoons, corporations, and
the great conglomeration of celebrities would
do well to read, and adopt.

Well scripted, my friend.

Great poem .
Life can be a 4 letter word if we let life happen to us. I think we need to live and imagine and let that little ray of hope, of magic, build inside us so that we light up the life IN us.
We all have the capability to do this - we just need to let that light smoulder and sprinkle hope and love to watch the light develop into a flame and that flame is called passion because of a passion for pleasure is the secret to remaining young.

xx
