You and I

An empty parking lot
Black divide
Kicked down
And low

We are alone

You mange-ridden
Lame and hungry
I tired
Undesirable
Lost in thought

We are not alone
The foolish say

You hesitant
Driven
Afraid
Cowering from my reach

Do you remember how they held you?
How they brushed the knots from your fur?

Do you remember how they loved you?

Oh, how they loved you
How they curled your heart with laughter
How they held your paws with care

We are alone
You and I

lot to think about here. "remember how they loved you,
alone, you and I". Abraham, who is this person?
What is the divide? Brushing knots from your fur,
is it fur? Alone to contemplate just now, what you wrote,
its significance, I suppose you suggest indifference, or worse,
a misguided degree of racial intolerance, or inhumane stupidity. Abraham, Lincoln, or Abraham from the bible?
To live in a sea of white, whatever...
White guilt, liberal tone... or concrete reality?
It's unsettling, the tone in the prose, perhaps intended to be that way. Yet there's much more than a glimmer of strength.
Good work I think. I was thinking about how someone could struggle, have it bad, but at least have a little,
and then maybe lose that much too. But you have a good mind, easy enough to tell by your manner of writing. For what it's worth, I'm white, in my fifties, seen a lot of bad stuff, won't say I understand what it's like to be black, especially underprivileged and black, because I don't.
Nor would I say I understand the indignity someone might be forced to feel just because the color of their skin. A good friend of mine, would always laugh out loud, white people are colored, freckles different shades of white. Abraham Lincoln was right, about Euclidean principle and all. But you can't say to someone, have a little faith sometimes not with all this... wait, sorry for the long reply.
it's a good piece, keep writing!

Peace!
