Its the urge inside sometimes to remember how it was
To imagine how it could have been
And its the dirty little secret kept hidden underneath the layers of calloused skin

Wear and tear this heart has been through
Many moons it felt lost among the seas
A shipwrecked vessel gently falling to the ocean floor
But this beaten heart has made it through
Don't say something small couldn't ever be so fierce, because I'll just prove you wrong
But wouldn't you know it
Once I got settled down
Once my heart had a steady beat again
And I didn't feel so fragile
My world becomes twisted

People from times I tried to forget
Come rushing in from everywhere
And I feel dizzy
Emotions from my past swell up in my chest
I swear I almost forget to breath sometimes
Memories keep playing in my head after they've wound up in my life again
And I remind myself why they weren't I'm my life anymore
But I ache for them more
And I run it over and over again in my mind
And I miss them, I miss it all again
I miss how my life used to be and the people in it
Even if they hurt, I want them again
its not fair that it works this way sometimes
Especially when you know you can't ever have them the way you want
Because that ship sailed long ago
even though you'd tear through their soul to know
what it would have been like if that one thing were different
If that one thing never happened
Where would we be at right now?
Its almost a poisonous thought
One that keeps you up in the night tossing and turning
Running over it a billion times
Its an infectious way of thinking
But so curiously addicting [comments] => 1 [counter] => 208 [topic] => 33 [informant] => the_unknown [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SecretLove )

I completely get this at the moment. I even got caught up and breathless reading it! Well written :)

I especially liked this

"Because that ship sailed long ago
even though you'd tear through their soul to know
what it would have been like if that one thing were different
If that one thing never happened
Where would we be at right now?"

Well done!
