-----------------------------------------------

Shifting shadows driven by aimless breezes
Conceal then reveal then conceal again
In a slow dance of moonlight and shadow
Cover my path both in front and behind.

Ghostly figures become naught but illusion
Moonlight slain, resurrected by shadows
Stalking silently along ever watching me
Staring in silent hunger, eternally patient.

East, west, north, south, all become one
Twins of twins laughing in play, dancing
Playing blind man's bluff with all senses
Swaddling the night with soft, whiteness.

At the end of forever I sit and watch them
Angel or devil or both riding the night winds
Whisper of lovers, fetid stench of all dying
Honeyed promises, bitter denials, truth in all lies.

Colder than ice is the chill of their fingers
Gathering me to them, all heat fades away
Muted and empty, the past of the future
They wrap it around me, "You must wear it", they say.

My shroud wrapped around me I watch them depart
The sun fades the shadows; the fog disappears
Yet one thing remains, a gift from the darkness
In the cold light of day I know it's still there.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
