[hometext] => This is my first sumbmission to this site; its a poem I wrote for my history class about the trans-atlantic slave trade.
[bodytext] => I stood upon the deck my hand at the stern It was early in the morning with the sun’s golden red against the blue sea The salty breeze flowing through my hair And the slow rocking of our mighty vessel lulling my eyes We had started in Elizabeth’s land Our ship laden heavy with weapons of all sorts Then we set south with fair winds guiding us down the coast The captain had us land aground than at a port of safe haven We waited for some time enjoying the respite we were given Finally traders came from inland by way of foot Leading trains of dark skinned savages bound by heavy chains of iron around their collars We gave them the goods of our homeland and filled our ship’s hold with these men Then we set sail for the West Indies across the sea But amidst the journey the slaves escaped And took hold of our vessel without a sword drawn Now I lay in the water waiting for death’s cold embrace ©Copyright of Andrew Ryan Hardwick [comments] => 0 [counter] => 66 [topic] => 31 [informant] => warhamer [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => StoryPoetry )
