Array ( [sid] => 17013 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => You can't change what happened [time] => 2003-05-04 17:35:00 [hometext] => this poem is about a girl who was sexually abused by her brother. this is my 1st poem. be gentle. i know it's pretty long! Sorry... it just kept coming out! [bodytext] => She'll never know what made her the target of this crime
What stopped the truth from being heard for such a long long time
He treated her as nothing, tore away her pride
Yet they saw him as their perfect son; they all stood on his side
When the truth came out, they tried; to turn the other way
They didn't want to hear the words their daughter had to say
She was crying out for help, she needed their support
But no one cared, no one listened; to what she felt or thought
What he did sure messed her up; it was plain for all to see
He'd convinced , over the years, that this was all she'd ever be
Finally, one day though, someone did get through
Her brother's words were washed away by 3 words: 'i love you'
This man, he saw the beauty, and soon she too could see
The future that awaited her, the girl that she could be
No one doubts that what he did was made far worse than wrong
He may have stole her childhood, but now she's moving on
She's had to change, she's not the girl, that she once used to be
The person that's inside of her is not the one they see
They think they know their daughter: how she thinks, how she feels
They say that she is 'over it' , they say the pain has healed
It's obvious that they, don't understand at all
They tell her not to sulk around, to stand up and be tall
How can they expect her, to forget those awful years
When in her sleep, those hell-filled days are all she sees and hears?
The pain will stay forever, no matter what she tries
There'll be days when she can't do much else but simply sit and cry
You can't change what happened, you can't ease the pain
You cannot even garuantee that it will not happen again
All that you can do; is open your arms wide
And convince her that her feelings, are nothing she should hide
Give her reason to believe that the world has some good men
And soon you'll see her start, to live and shine again
Give her room to grow, and let her tears roll free
Accept the way she feels, even if you don't agree
Never tell her that you think, her feelings are not right
You don't feel the pain she does, every day and night
Youi don't understand, all that she goes through
Just love her and look after her; that's all that you can do [comments] => 9 [counter] => 187 [topic] => 32 [informant] => hurthurthurt [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 12 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SadPoetry )

It is a very true put poem. No one will ever know the nights she spends in her dreams, coming from being abused is hard I have lived it although my abusers weren't my brother it was my older sister and father. And the person i live with now can tell you there are nights i wake up sweating and screaming and theres nights I can't sleep. And my mother told me Sorry honey i can't do anything for you. Your right all you can do is love that person and hope they realize that in reality it wasn't there fault that they were the victims.
Always
Amy

An excellent poem. Depth, feeling, rhymes, scans (with one or two slight hitches). I really admire it.

Stands with the best.

Awesome, incredible, and so close to home only it was my uncle to blame. the reason i
thought it was my brothers fault is cause he had black hair jus like my uncle. then i married a man that had black hair and the flashbacks started. I finally realized it wasn't his fault cause he had been molested by the same uncle. i finally found forgiveness in my heart when my uncle came to me in night mares after he blew his own brains out. i din't wonna remember but i had to to find my own inner peace. I never told but one of my parents about my brother but he was married-n-gone by then. the parent that I told was the guilty parents own brother but I never told her about him 'cause she was gone by the time I remembered at the age 50. I never told the other cause it was my bro i blamed and he would have killed either one of theem.
this is a very powerfull write and it's full with power.
thanks for posting it cause it got some things off my chest. I guess there are some decent men out there after all.
huggs,
emy
