Cracked and bleeding tears of remorse
Lies the long path to yesterday’s life
I have run a long and bitter course
Encountered much sadness and strife
The path to tomorrow is welcome release
The intricate twists and turns doubtless rife
With upset and hardship to appease --
Would that I could take unto myself a wife

I am lonely now and this is my regret
I must have an heir to complete myself
For we are all just a sum of memory
And for closure and a sense of substance
To life one needs to pass on who we were
In order that those to come may profit

If the sum of my existence is outrageous failure
May someone at least learn from my errors
So that they may prosper in turn...

I too am heirless with a free 'n' clear title to twenty acres of mountain forest with a cabin home 'n' two thousand works of poetry written over 33 years. Whoever, may they prosper. I thought there was a mutual draw, you 'n' I. Maybe this is it. You scribed yer side real well.

Adopt! I did, because my wife couldn't
bare children. Then miracle of miracles,
she became pregnant. We experienced
the best of both worlds! I wouldn't change
a thing for I love the adopted son as much
as my natural born daughter and both will
share equally in any inheritance. The alternative
would have Uncle Sam and the IRS benefiting. I shudder to think of that happening. Adopt! Very
deep write. I enjoyed it.
Blessings,
Robert Edgar Burns (Rob)
