So many years - - surely not - - not here
Tangible dread - - no sound in the room
It comes - - I feel it now - - moving near
Please God that it had not sensed him now

Eyes blazed in the darkness. How - - please how?
Moving around - - scratching - - smelling fear
Moving closer now - - owning the gloom
Explosion of flesh - - lo! Stygian leer

On the bed - - sniffing - - sensing its prey
Howl of the demon - - an unholy cheer
The Gargoyle triumphant - - back from Hell

That visage of death - - charnel house smell
Razor-like claws - - searching for flesh
Terrible fortune - - the battle renewed

The face - - hideous in the extreme lurched forward
Toward me - - the foul-smelling odour of its breath
Assaulting my nostrils. I could not move - - held
Transfixed by the beast - - my days surely numbered

With great effort - - I hurled myself from the bed - -
All the while my eyes unable to pull from the meld
Cowering against the wall - - I could feel only death
I could not speak - - I shed tears of fear but not a word

I noticed with embarrassment that I had relieved
Myself. Sheer terror now guided my actions
Death was only moments away. What to do?

Ever closer it approached - - steam rising from
Its hideous body - - the smell now causing me
To vomit copiously - - my mind accepted death

Do not fear so - - What’s this? A voice in the darkness - -
Remember - - Melissa! Sweet joy and happenstance
Of great fortune! I sensed in the beast a change, pausing
To test the air - - hesitancy now - - unsure it stopped

A sound like stone on stone - - the beast spoke - - dead
Lips forming peculiar sound - - My angel moved - - ring
Of purest white surrounded her - - a pause - - vengeance - -
The devil scuttled back - - its carapace clattered - - duress

It knew not what to do but was a-feared. Melissa
Stepped into the fray - - stepped? No for floated did
She - - moving ever forward - - arms aloft - - incanted

Cabalistic verse - - unheard in centuries - - words
Of purest Death - - floated on the ether. Demon spun
And in an instant vanished. Melissa - - gone - -a dream?

I knew I was in trouble when I had to look up progeny before readin' this critter. Critter it is, Mr. Al! One heck of a masterfully written piece of critter compelled me to keep my dictionary at my side 'cause cowboy had to look up a couple of yer quarter cost words, ponder, contemplate 'n' enjoy yer mastery here. Number 10.
