It was done in about three minutes but says a lot. Sometimes your parents, they just don't understand. [bodytext] => You want me to be better than what I am,
you say its for the best of me.
Everything I have ever done,
you have criticized and laughed at.
But who's laughing now?
You aren't me, so don't pretend like you know me.
You want to know something about me?
I am who I am... and I'm not going to change.
I hate not being good enough for you,
but hey... I'm a kid.

I'm sorry...

You tell me that I can be something great;
a doctor, a lawyer, a ***** dentist.
But what if I don't want to be a doctor?
What if I want to be a writer?
"That's deadended and no guarantee" you say,
but what if that makes me happy?
Does that change things then?
I know you don't understand,
but you act like you do...
but hey... I'm a kid.

I'm sorry....

I know you are just looking out for me,
you want the best.
But I'm not the best,
so stop acting like I am.
I'm a kid, just barely 16.
I can't be what you want me to be,
that doesn't make me happy.
Shouldn't you just be happy that I am happy,
and not discourage at what makes me happy?

I'm sorry....

So I can write.... and sure I have dreams,
but you know me.
You tell me to be a doctor,
and I will be.
To make you happy,
I will throw my dreams and hopes away...
and fullfil yours.
I know that's what you want to hear.

I'm... I'm not going to say I am sorry.

But remember this when I am unhappy and depressed...
you said this was the best thing for me.

My parent's love me. And I just wrote this because we were talking about high schools and my parent's want me to go to a class "A" high school because they offer so much more but I love my school and this is where I want to be. Don't get the wrong impression on this poem. I was just discouraged and just needed to..... blow off some steam. I love everyone's opinions....

Amy, this sounds so much like things that went on between myself and my parents. I have too admire all of you teens today. You have more too deal with
it seems than when I was a teen. I grew up with a perfectionist father, who also had a drinking problem. You can just imagine....... Nothing ever suited my dad. Didn't matter what it was it was never good enough. Im 34 now and at times still have this same problem... So hang in there!!! Just because Im 34 dont think for a moment I dont get it because I do, believe me!!! Great job.If you want too be a writer keep up with your writing!!

Thank you everyone for your comforting words. My dad and I talked... and he is beginning to understnad. He does not agree with me being what I want... but he said, that if it makes me happy than it makes him happy. He said either way he will be proud of what I have accomplished. And that's all I really want, is someone to believe in me, like my dad does. He is an incredible man... and I love him very much.

Thank you all...
Amy
