I hear her in my dreams – always.
She promised she would never leave
And to that vow she has remained faithful.
The shallow whispers of encouragement force me,
No, coerce me to get up in the morning.
How I miss her so.
The vacuum that her absence has created is impervious to breach.
Nothing, no-one can replace that void.

I see her in my dreams – always.
Never anything less than perfect.
The way she would have wanted, smiling, laughing.
She is not dead to me for the fire still burns brightly in her eyes.
A wink, a shake of the head, staring up at me with head bowed,
A playful moue of the lips causing her face to light up.
Cheeky, like a naughty schoolgirl admonished for some aberrance.
God, how I miss her so.

I talk to her in my dreams – always.
No matter how bad I feel I always declare my love.
I tell her that we will be re-united but I always receive that frown.
She does not like me to think that way.
Even in death she looks after me.
I may have my life but she has my soul.
It is this together with my memories of her
That permit me to live with her again.
.
I am forbidden from touching her in my sleep – always.
That which I desire most of all.
To be given the chance to embrace her once again,
Fold her in my arms and kiss those honeyed lips.
To touch her once again, to stroke, smell her perfumed hair.
To hold her hand at the denouement of each evening.
I dread the end of my sleep for every time I have to do it:
That which I despise and rue – saying goodbye.
