[hometext] => Poem about Veteran's Day celebrations in France. I was struck by the sense of occasion.
[bodytext] => In the smallest towns of Picardie In the coming of another year Where we all sit it out, the villagers come out And sing, and listen, and hear. While we forget the moment that passes Without a glance back down the line The villages are together, under the dark weather To mute the hour and the time. All bugles and voices fighting The singers ready and poised Stood facing the ground, setting memories to sound As the wind tears off their voice. One minute we see them, the next we don’t. One day is like another to this man. But the image of the huddle, reflected in a puddle, Lingers and sorrows down in France. In the smallest towns of Picardie In the coming of another year Where we just sit it out, the people are out To sing, to listen, and to hear.
