And all the things we shared back then, the moments quickly flew.
We’d make excuses just to see and touch each others face,
With gentle hands to warm the heart, I’d melt in your embrace.
Laughter was so common, like sweet music to my ears,
And the way that you would smile at me erased all of my fears.
It was then that you would long for me and want me by your side,
While the things you said to others told me plainly of your pride.

But now the new has worn off, the luster’s gone away,
And with all the things that once were told, there’s not much more to say.
Too many times we’re busy with a world we call our own,
While on the battlefield of human pride our love is hardly shown.
But now and then you grace me with a sparkle in your eye,
A smile or a loving touch, and my heart lets out a cry,
This is what I’m longing for, if only it would last,
Then the present wouldn’t have to go and turn into the past

Yet the more I think about it, the more I realize,
You’ve helped me face life’s burdens, no matter what the size.
And when I needed someone, to be the perfect friend,
You gave me strength in loving hope and stayed until the end.
So it’s true the luster’s faded but it’s easier to see,
There’s steel that lies beneath the shine, binding you and me.
I know now when it’s over, that one thing will stay new,
And that’s the never ending love that I feel inside for you.

Oh my..this is absolutely precious. I have often felt the need and longing to have my marriage start over again, just so I could feel all giddy like a lil kid again. It's amazing how it all fades away once familiarity sets in...
