The information society engulfs us:
Protects, provides, provisions and prevails.
We cannot challenge it or deny its existence.
For without it now, where would man be?

Who now does not surf the World Wide Web?
After it is the font of all our knowledge.
All eyes scan the data, brains eagerly feed
Yet information does not always bring resolution.

For all our input, queries, requests,
The answers all return with reference and hypothesis.
The future is the future – the eternal irresolute.
Man the external Messiah and internal materialist.

The electronic age controls our economies
Our global populace is recorded, saved and filed.
Earnings, savings, debts, collateral
Known to all by those who seek to profit.

The only true vision of progression
Comes purely from the acts of our predecessors.
Man is Man and forever will be so.
That is a constant, a template for the future.

Information technology guides us through the present
But to look forward we need to look back.
The history of the ancients maps our future
Until the time when the machine becomes sentient.

Despite the science and the advances
Man remains Man, static and predictable.
All our collated knowledge manages to show
Is our innate greed and lack of guilt.

Computers preserve and nurture society.
Databases maintain and protect our economy.
Information technology is our life, yet
History and its legacy forever shape our destiny.

Past, Present and Future.

Interesting write, Al. I would agree with much of what you say, however the internal optimist in me wants to believe the pursuit of knowledge and technology is in the interest of the betterment of man. I suppose I am happier to live in that illusion than to be depressed by the reality of greed. :P In any case, this was very thought provoking and filled with a wisdom and poetic command that is impressive. Well done, my friend. :)

A nice calling back to our roots in history and stressing the constancy of man. Personally I am for the most part pro-technology, but as with all things it certainly has the capacity to go terribly awry.

I think technology and man will, as long as our civilization reigns, walk hand-in-hand, for with all its downsides technology has usefulness (otherwise it wouldn't have survived). What is man known better for than taking risks?

Obviously a very thought-provoking work. I commend you on your unique topic selection!

I Google what you're saying. Smile! j/k

For real though... we are history therefore we forever shape our destiny.

Very interesting piece of work here. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks,

Tim
