Array ( [sid] => 157966 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Unfinished [time] => 2010-03-08 07:09:30 [hometext] => My tour has come to an end, and so I dedicate this poem to all those that have fallen during my year deployment to Afghanistan...The Phantom [bodytext] => So my tour has come to an end, I made it through...but lost some friends,
The memories of early morning attacks, and those convoys of MRAPS,
IEDs, and RPGs, small arms fire, and suicide bombers,
These things will haunt me the rest of my life, but at least I'm still alive,

I have shed my share of tears, as my brothers and sister were carried home this past year,
So to say I survived, it was for them, and through me they shall forever live,
The names without faces, my heart has broke in so many places,
I'm one of the lucky ones, within days I'll be home, but with me come...psychological wounds,

A veteran I'm called, a wounded soul forever changed, lucky enough not to fall,
These young soldiers I deployed with are now my extended family, they fought for their country proudly,
As we embark on this journey home, those that lost a loved one, that pain...you don't carry alone,
Till the day I die, their names I will honor...their names will bring a tear to my eye,

I've asked myself a million times, why did I live, why did they have to die,
The answer I'm afraid, may never be found, so with a heavy heart I stand up proud,
Remember the fallen, and carry on with the mission,
Live life to the fullest, and leave no task unfinished.

Forever Faithful
The Phantom

While I will admit this choked me up, I am also glad to see you have made it home...finally. I've said it before and will say it again, I am proud and thankful for all the people like you.

Take care and be blessed.

Tim

Hi Matt, while I am saddened over the death of your fellow comrades, I am so very happy that you are finally going home to your family in one piece. I can only imagine how hard the past year has been on all of you...

Mourn their loss, yes, but relax and enjoy your family with no guilt....
Hugs and Prayers..
Jenni

Matt my friend,
I will mirror both Tim and Jen.

This indeed did bring tears to my eyes as well. I am so happy you are home and are safe. I understand as I am married to a Vet.

Thank you for what you have done for our freedom.

Huge hugs
if you ever need to chat light me up
Michelle

one strong beautifully heartfelt write, my friend, its always harder to be the one left to go on living, but we have things yet to do in this life; which will be revealed as life goes on, so happy you are coming home, you are such an inspiration to me, blessings to you and yours,

hugs n' love nessa
