Some comfort which I cannot see.
Life’s ocean has claimed my boat,
Now I struggle to stay afloat.

How much longer can I tread water?
My legs fatigue as if churning mortar.
Suddenly I begin to sink,
And of my ill fate I think.

I take in water as I gasp for air,
And I thrash around in despair.
But it only makes things worse;
In my mind I can only curse.

Does one’s life truly flash before their eyes,
When one is at the end and surly dies?
I will never know without a doubt,
For suddenly I was lifted out.

Coughing up water on the sand,
I thanked God that I was on dry land.
My rescuer was no where to be found,
Too close for comfort; I had almost drowned.

After I had regained my strength,
I walked upon the sand at length.
I combed the beach from mile to mile,
And found I was on a deserted isle.

Though in solitude I seemed to be,
At least death had not taken me.
‘Twas better to be alone at night,
Than to suffer that awful plight.

Who had saved me from my fate?
At the very moment it seemed too late.
I thanked the stranger and I thanked God;
As sleep took me my head began to nod.

I awoke in the morn to an enchanting sound;
Which seemed to even vibrate the ground.
It was a lovely voice uplifted in song;
Which faded faintly but not for long.

The sweet melody rose up high once more,
As if catching wind through the sky it soar.
It sent a shiver down my spine,
Could this be the voice of that savior of mine?

It seemed to be both happy and sad,
Yet to hear the voice of another I was glad.
I followed the graceful tune to its source,
And as I drew nearer I felt its full force.

Tears came to my eyes and I fell to my knees;
Trying to catch my breath I began to wheeze.
Emotions sprang up; I was unsure of what I felt.
If I took another step my heart would surly melt.

Whoever sang the bewitching song,
Must have sensed that something was wrong.
For the melody faded softly in the breeze,
And at once I could again breathe with ease.

A figure knelt down by my side,
And as I looked my eyes grew wide.
She wore an elegant white gown of lace,
And I gasped as I saw her ethereal face.

She was more mesmerizing than anything I had seen,
I felt sure I had strayed into a dream.
She smiled, gently brushing back her flowing hair,
Bent over and whispered softly in my ear:

“I set you free from the cruel ocean of life,
No longer will you feel such strife.
You will live here on my beautiful isle,
And I will be with you all the while.”

Her comforting words were music to my ears,
And again my eyes filled with tears.
For I new I had died under the water that day,
And in this sweet afterlife I would forever stay.
