And when I put my boots afield
it sets my heart to pounding.
There’s nowhere that I’d rather be
than with my hound a bounding
through brush and creek and o’er the hills,
and hear her when she’s sounding.

From desk and task I must escape
Or lose the soul within me.
This longing that I can not stay
Is but the foal of envy,
Of simpler times and simpler men
Whose freedom much I fancy,
To come and go without a clock
And through the woods go dancing.

wow this was fantastic writing my friend, brilliant and inspiring, i loved the true sense of pure freedom you expressed and clearly yearned for in this piece, i really got that sense, each line was just great, i feel that you have a real passion for writing and(if its not fictional) hunting also and this comes across in a great poem. fabulous writing!!!

keep it up!!

Bravo! Bravo! Well this poem of your was a delight. At the beginning of your poem, I thought the context would be about an alpha male but it was really about a hunter's instinct and the freedom it brings in it's escape.

A lovely poem indeed.

Hmmm.. thought I commented on this one the other day. Must have gotten distracted. So, what I like about this besides being very nicely written is this trip into the sounds of nature. Thank you for bringing us along.

Welcome to YPDC.

Very clever poem! The tempo was nice and kind of reminded me of the way a hound would got trotting out for a hunt.

I enjoyed it very much and will read your other posts.

Thanks for sharing!
Carol
