I’ve slept with Maya Angelou;
Alice Walker, Sylvia Plath
both led me down the garden path.
the Bronte sisters?
done them all
truth be told I had a ball
Wilcox and Dickinson,
Sappho and sweet rich, Adrienne!
Judith Wright and Pam Ayres
(I did the last two on the stairs)

a bevy of women
young and old;
cold as ice or hold and bold
once they were in my bed,
their passions were as good as read.

I’ve dabbled on the other side, with
forlorn Poe and Daddy Hughes;
Browning, Donne and Aussie Dawe
—when it comes to verse I’m such a whore.
Homer and Percy Bysshe,
Gynsburg, Kerouac (I wish)
Dylan - Thomas and Bobby Z
- both gave it up to me.
even Bukowski, filthy man
but of his words, I’m such a fan
Bill the Bard, who can refuse?
Wordsworth, Auden - one can’t lose

threesomes, foursomes,
six and eight!
appetites I cannot sate
orgies of the written word,
baby fresh or well matured.

so many thoughts, profound and deep,
too many books, no room to sleep!
goodbye Hildegard, out-out Keats!

Yes .. a wonderful account of nights spent deep inside the dreams, words, essence
of the greats! And I know just how intense and involved those nights can be! Ah yes ..
'tis a thing of beauty!

I know you meant this as a comical look at the power of inspiration, but damn, poet! Here is
a look at where and why this inspiration drives us to the madness of writing down every thought.
(Even the indiscreet ones ..haha) Poets can be found often to be lonely, but never are we alone.
And we will fill ourselves with the intensity that is owned and borrowed through the history
of madness. And the result? Sometimes magnificence, sometimes a mediocre attempt at life,
through words ..

Brilliantly laid down, my friend. And a joy to read. Over and over again.
